Earlier this year we announced a new quarterly release cadence. Quarterly cadence means that you, our customers, will have access to product updates every three months. It also aligns more closely to the Microsoft and Citrix release schedules – see these articles for more detail:

These quarterly releases will include Service Updates and Feature Updates. We will continue to produce hotfixes as needed throughout the year.

Aligning with the new quarterly cadence has helped us to respond faster to the needs of the market and deliver greater value to you—our customers and partners. When you engage with Ivanti, you’ll see your contributions and feedback influencing our product development more quickly than with our previous release model.

Here’s the detail on our new Release Model:

  • Major Annual MSI Release (delivered as an MSI – a complete Windows Installer setup): This annual major release will contain bigger changes and new features, and product updates that cannot be delivered in an MSP.
  • Quarterly Release (delivered as an MSP – a Windows Installer patch): Twice a year we will release Service Updates which will contain a rollup of any issued hotfixes. Between the Service Updates will also include smaller product feature updates that can be delivered in an MSP. This allows us to deliver feature changes mid-cycle, without waiting for the next major release, especially if Windows 10 changes require them.

Our first major release was Version 10.1 in January 2017. The next major release is targeted for April 2018, when we will be switching to a new release naming convention (see below), so the 2018 major release will be will be User Workspace Manager 2018.0.

“Tier One” Releases

After every release (Major and Minor) is completed by our Development team, we begin a short period of Field Testing with select customers and internal production users. This involves a live upgrade on a customer site so that we can catch any issues that only manifest themselves in production environments. Once we have fixed any issues that arise, the release will be made available as a General Availability download on the Ivanti community site.

Upgrading

Customers who don’t want to take advantage of the quarterly release cycle should continue to plan their upgrades in line with the major annual releases. Each release will be maintained for 3 years, but priority for updates and hotfixes will be given to the most recent releases.
