Ivanti Report Reveals Only One in Three Organizations Have Implemented Zero Trust Network Access for Remote Workers

Despite escalating security risks, most enterprises still lack robust access controls—leaving critical gaps in cybersecurity.

October 01, 2025 — SALT LAKE CITY —

Ivanti, a global enterprise IT and security software company, released its Securing the Borderless Digital Landscape report, which revealed that weak access controls and unmanaged devices are requiring organizations to rethink how they defend the perimeter.

Today’s cyber threats don’t respect boundaries. As such, organizations must move beyond traditional perimeter-based security and adopt a zero-trust approach—where every user, device and application is continuously authenticated and authorized, regardless of location. However, Ivanti’s findings show that only one in three employers currently implement zero trust network access for remote workers. Additionally, 79% of IT professionals recognize the importance of robust access controls outside the office, but only 30% of organizations use privileged access management.

“In today’s cyber landscape, the traditional perimeter-based security model is no longer sufficient,” said Mike Riemer, Ivanti’s SVP of Network Security Group (NSG) and Field CISO. “Zero trust is the foundation of modern enterprise security. The surge in edge and IoT devices, along with the widespread use of personal devices for work, means organizations need to embrace a zero-trust strategy built on identity access management, least privilege access and encryption.”

Additional key findings from the report include:

  • Rampant BYOD and Unmanaged Devices Fuel Security Blind Spots:
    • Although 75% of IT workers report regular BYOD usage, just over half of organizations permit it, and 78% of employees ignore BYOD bans. Further, more than one in three IT professionals lack adequate insight into which devices are connecting to their networks, and 45% lack visibility into shadow IT. These blind spots heighten the risk of security breaches and compliance violations, as organizations cannot protect what they cannot see.
  • Unmanaged Edge Devices Expose Enterprises to Critical Cyber Threats:
    • On average, only 60% of edge devices are under management, leaving two out of five edge devices unmonitored and increasing organizational risk. The report highlights that unmanaged edge devices remain a critical entry point for potential cyberattacks, despite efforts like network access restrictions and leveraging machine learning to monitor for anomalous activity.

This report is based on Ivanti’s 2025 State of Cybersecurity Report: Paradigm Shift and 2025 Technology at Work Report: Reshaping Flexible Work. These reports surveyed a combined total of over 600 executive leaders, 3,000 IT and cybersecurity professionals and 6,000 office workers around the world.
