For such a small Patch Tuesday, we weren’t short on drama. With the higher-profile Symantec compatibility issue and new wormable vulnerabilities disclosed, the urgency and uncertainty this month couldn’t be higher.

Of course, here are the quick links to stay up to date on any developing known issues:

Patch Tuesday Follow-Up

In the Patch Tuesday Webinar, we try to cover all the known issues reported by Microsoft at the time, but as always, additional issues get reported as the week continues. Here are a few notable issues we found:

  • Microsoft re-released the SHA-2 signing support update (KB4474419) for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 this month to remediate boot issues after the August updates are applied. While IA64 is cited in the issue, other support forums have reported this on x86 and x64 architectures. Be sure to distribute the SHA-2 update first.
  • To those with legacy applications, Microsoft added an additional known issue to its list for all platforms where Visual Basic applications may stop responding after August’s patches are applied. Expect a fix within the next couple of weeks when the mid-month non-securities get rolled out.

Third-Party Updates

As always, our other supported third-party vendors have been releasing non-security updates for their respective products. While these updates might not have CVEs, they may also contain valuable stability updates for your end users:
