Microsoft just announced their Patch Tuesday Advanced Notification for the January 2010 version of Patch Tuesday.  As we expected, this month will be very light for a patch Tuesday.  We will be starting the decade out with one security bulletin.

Recent numbers show that it is not uncommon for Microsoft having a light patch month in Jauary.

  • January 2009 - 1 Security Bulletin
  • January 2008 - 2 Security Bulletins
  • January 2007 - 2 Security Bulletins

The security bulletin for this month is rated as Critical and affects all supported operating systems, including Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2.  The bulletin has drastic swings in severity ratings.  Windows 2000 SP4 has a rating of critical, with the rest of the operating systems rated as Low.

Adobe is also planning on releasing an update for their Acrobat and Reader products for the highly publicized zero-day exploit.
